An alternative to roaming has been revealed by TextBay, a new UK company, with the suggestion that holidaymakers buy a SIM card along with other holiday purchases so now you freely take your cell phones along with you without worrying about those heavy roaming charges.
According to TextBay, many holidaymakers using roaming services are returning home to face large phone bills. The company said that customers can purchase a TextBay SIM card for the country they are travelling to, swap it with their existing SIM card, and give the temporary number to friends and family, using their mobile phone as a Pay-As-You-Go for the duration of their holiday. Phones must be GSM compatible and unlocked to use a TextBay SIM. Dual SIMs for those travelling to more than one country are also available.
TextBay claims that significant savings can be made using its SIM cards, for example it says a 10-minute call from Spain to the UK will cost about GBP8.50 on any UK network, but only GBP3.00 with a TextBay Spanish Vodafone SIM.
